Biosketch

Dr. Amy Lynn Wear earned her MD from The University of Arizona, Tucson (1992) and her certification with the American Board of Surgery for General Surgery and Breast and Laparoscopic Surgery (1997). Dr. Waer is an Associate Professor in the Department of Surgery, UA College of Medicine. As Associate Dean for Curricular Affairs, Dr. Waer leads Curricular Affairs, which includes faculty instructional development. In addition to her position as Associate Dean, Dr. Waer serves as the Director of the General Surgery Residency Program, and on the Dean's Council on Faculty Affairs. She also helped lead the effort in establishing the Professionalism Committee at the UA College of Medicine and launching the professionalism reporting system, encouraging and enabling all UA COM constituents to report exemplary behavior as well as behaviors of concern. Dr. Waer also serves as a mentor for medical students in the Medical Education Distinction Track.

Dr. Waer presents at least one seminar per year in the AMES/OMSE FID Series on bedside teaching.

Research Focus

Breast cancer prevention and early detection, particularly the relationship of atypical ductal hyperplasia seen on ductoscopy or biopsy and the potential to progress to breast cancer
