ACE Methods & Strategies

Educational Strategies

The ACE Program will employ a variety of educational strategies to foster interactive, small group and reflective learning and to model how to use a variety of educational strategies in day to day teaching. The educational framework is based on the dynamics among reflective learning, reflective teaching and reflective practice. Therefore many of the educational strategies used intend to faciliate metacognitive engagement on the part of medical students and promote reflective teaching. With all affiliate faculty, we will endeavor to select teaching tools that suit the specific teaching and learning demands of the affiliate site's situation. Every intervention will integrate constructive feedback.

Instructional methods include the use of audience response technology, such as Poll Everywhere, to engage clinical educators or enhance interaction among participants. We prefer to use such technology to identify issues of concern because participant responses are anonymous, which invites a more open discussion.

Educational strategies include case-based learning and role-playing. In some instances, we conduct hands-on workshops of 1 - 2 hours, half-day retreats, and reflective journaling, or shadowing with one-on-one mentoring and narrative feedback.

We also invite you to provide feedback to help us evaluate and improve the ACE Program.
