Description

The AMES/OMSE Teaching Scholars Program intends to advance the vision of the University of Arizona College of Medicine as a leader in innovative medical education. The program provides intensive support to faculty in their path toward the goals of engaging in skillful, humanistic, reflective and scholarly educational practice. Toward that end, Teaching Scholars design, conduct and present what we call "Commitment to Change" projects. Each project identifies an issue concerning the teaching or assessment of medical students. Teaching Scholars prepare a scholarly paper to present at the final seminar in the AMES/OMSE FID Series, and a poster for presentation at the Medical Education Research Day in July. The program also offers support to scholars in seeking publication of their work in journals such as Graduate Medical Education and Academic Medicine.

For the 2013-14 academic year, the final FID Series seminar AMES/OMSE Teaching Scholars will present the following topics:

  • How do faculty physicians interpret feedback from learners? (Tara Carr, MD)

  • How does the use of the Feedback Passport, a standardized structured skill-based feedback tool, influence students’ perception of the quality and amount of feedback received during their third year OB/GYN clerkship? (Heather Reed, MD)

  • How does the Integration of Case-Based Instruction (CBI) in a Psychopathology Seminar in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship Training Improve Engagement of fellows in the Learning Process as well as their Understanding of Psychopathology? (Kathy W. Smith, MD)
