The SAMR model characterizes the type of change needed to incorporate technology in to the teaching/learning process.
The purpose is to guide instructors in choosing the right tool as well as in designing the learning experience.
- When substantial changes in session design, technology and/or faculty support are required, the session calls for transformation (greater effort).
- When simple substitution or additoin of activities or technology are needed without need for substantial faculty support, the session calls for enhancement (less effort).
Assessing the effort required to meet the demands of transitioning to the new curriculum is essential to obtanining the faculty support needed.
Below is an adaptation of the SAMR model for use in determining the level and type of effort that might be required to make desired curricular changes, moving toward increasing or enhancing active learning experiences.
